Lazarus, 19 1/2 inches, is a prefigure of Christ. Yet Lazarus’ death and  resurrection were incomplete. As a symbol, he images our death by separations of selfishness, isolation and determinism; wrapped in fear, desires and defenses.  The call of Christ is that of rebirth in relationship to both God and humankind, a stance if transparency before the Lord.  Within the meditation on John 11:43-44 is a command to family and friends to, “Unbind him, let him be free”  and to complete the call that was begun by Christ.
